About The Position

The Agricultural Industry Specialist III will work under the supervision of the Agricultural Industries Manager. The incumbent is responsible for giving technical advice and support to the bank’s agricultural lenders and Credit Administration. The Agricultural Industry Specialist III must possess a strong background and broad understanding of the agricultural industry. The incumbent is responsible for collecting data and analyzing information for the purpose of creating operating budgets, conducting crop and water analysis, and making industry commodity price recommendations, conducting agricultural real estate evaluations, physical inspection of land, crops and livestock collateral and assessing ag processor businesses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent from a college or university; and 8 or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of a financial analyzing or lending background. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.
  • Skilled in use of personal computers and Windows driven programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and process management skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and coordinate with necessary Bank personnel to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate detailed regulatory and policy requirements in a useable and manageable way.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the review of crop budgets for agricultural production credits.
  • Familiarity with agricultural real estate appraisals and appraisal principles also preferred

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with borrowers to identify and evaluate their business and operational requirements.
  • Prepares crop and livestock budgets and budget summaries of highly complex credits.
  • Conducts onsite field crop and/or livestock inspections, and crop progress reports of highly complex credits.
  • Measures performance and analyzes data such as crop yield, water demand, soil quality and production costs.
  • Advises on the adaptability of farmland to other crops and land uses.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant agricultural industry developments and trends.
  • Undertakes administrative duties, manages budgets and accounts, updates information, and prepares reports.
  • Determines suitability of agricultural processing facilities.
  • Performs economic analysis of processing and marketing companies.
  • Recommends agricultural real estate and equipment appraisers for the Bank’s approved appraiser list.
  • Possesses and maintains knowledge of water and other industry regulations.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of water district delivery, cost and reliability throughout the bank’s market area.
  • Performs pre-qualification assessment and analysis of operational condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank credit policy and current economic and industry trends.
  • Provides Aquaoso reports to Agricultural Industries personnel, Credit Administration and Relationship Managers.
  • Serves as team leader for respective regional commercial underwriting groups and in various departmental and bank wide projects.
  • Serves as process leader for Ag Collateral Monitoring within the department.
  • Assists Ag Industries Manager in ordering real estate appraisals and monitoring appraisal workflow as needed.
  • Attends conferences and workshops and disseminates information to the broader credit administration team.
  • Assists in the training and mentoring of junior credit personnel.
  • May supervise Agricultural Analyst within the Ag Industries Department.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert of Bank systems, software, and third-party vendor platforms.
  • Assists Ag Industries Manager in preparation and presentation of periodic meetings with Regional or Bank wide staff that cover ag loan risk topics related to crop budgets, commodity price trends, real estate values, ag water risk, and other ag related topics as requested.
  • Assures compliance with all Bank policies, procedures and processes, and all applicable state and federal banking laws, rules and regulations, and adheres to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) responsibilities that are specific to the position.
  • Assigned special projects, and gathers data and prepares reports for Senior Management, audits, and other reporting needs.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
