About The Position

American Preparatory Academy is looking for an Afterschool Director with energy and enthusiasm to oversee and coordinate the student mentoring program (primarily grades 7-12) and afterschool community events for American Preparatory Academy’s West Valley 3 campus. This position requires strong management, communication, and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail. The ideal candidate must be willing to work Mon/Tues/Fri from 10:30 am – 7:00 am, and Wed/Thurs from 9:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to collaborate and rapport with staff members and students
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with basic technology (iPads, computers, Microsoft, Google, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a school setting preferred
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking through the building
  • May be asked to lift up to 15 lbs. at a time

Responsibilities

  • Professional Development Organize and track afterschool staff professional development
  • Ensure that gran attendance and other data are sent to district office
  • HR Responsibilities Ensure afterschool mentoring program is fully staff by placing ads, attending job fairs, conducting interviews, and hiring
  • Complete new hire orientation with new afterschool mentor program staff
  • Complete timecard verifications and tracking
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Grant Compliance / Reporting Conduct monitoring visits twice a year
  • Be responsive to district grants team requests for data or narratives
  • Conduct staff and student surveys as required by grants
  • Be responsible for implementation of program requirements
  • Attend all require grant compliance meetings
  • Lights On & Lights Off Establish and maintain relationships with community members and partners
  • Invite community members and partners to participate in Lights On & Lights Off events
  • Organize food, set-up, clean-up, staff assignments, volunteers, etc.
  • Clubs Assist with club formation, fundraisers, resources, and reporting requirements
  • Make room assignments
  • Collegium Hall Assign Mentors to classrooms
  • Oversee incentive and retention programs
  • Track and count all daily homework progress reports
  • Reserve computer and printer labs
  • Keep accurate records of evaluations, attendance, assessments, and other data
  • Other Communicate and coordinate with day-school staff and administrators, as well as Elementary (Sistema) afterschool directors
  • Communicate with parents and encourage participation via the school newsletter, afterschool calendar, etc.
  • Monitor grant program budgets and program discretionary budget
  • Send invoices to accounting, ensure receipts are kept, and check/cc authorizations are done appropriately
  • Assist with afterschool program fundraisers
  • Positively interact with parents and students
  • Continuously develop qualify of afterschool programs
  • Present at student orientation, parent orientations, provide information at parent/teacher conferences
  • Attend and contribute to weekly school admin meetings
