About The Position

Responsible for designing, organizing, and leading the daily operations of the UCC After-School Programs. This includes recruitment, hiring, and daily supervision of staff and volunteers, and care of elementary and middle school students. This involves ensuring program compliance and maintaining effective communication with families, school administration, and community partners. This program runs year-round and supports students and families during non-school hours and days. The program provides a safe, engaging, and productive atmosphere for students to learn and grow.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, using MS Office, Google applications and other basic data systems including internet navigation.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships, internally and externally, while designing programs that will provide valuable experiences for students.
  • Take proactive and creative approaches in resolving any challenges presented while on job duty.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Clearly communicate and fulfill tasks in a timely manner.
  • Present information in one-on-one, small, and large group situations to youth and other employees of the organization.
  • Excellent leadership skills are required.
  • Demonstrated evidence of CPR, Concussion, Mandated Reporter, and other licensing-led training will be required for the position (UCC will help to identify free/low-cost online courses to complete training).
  • Ability to work sitting, walking, and going up and down stairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience volunteering or working with youth is strongly desired.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) speaker desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Afterschool Team Lead, supervising all aspects of implementing programming for the UCC Summer Recreation and childcare programs
  • Follows rules, policies, and regulations as outlined in the organization handbook and in accordance with state/federal guidelines
  • Maintains compliance with all grant requirements and childcare and daycare licensing regulations, including proper documentation and timely renewals
  • Fulfills written and verbal assignments from supervisor in a timely manner
  • Recruits, schedules, and supervises college and high-school-aged Group Leader employees and volunteers
  • Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the participation and performance of employees and volunteers while recommending those individuals for discipline, termination, or retention
  • Creates and manages weekly staff schedules to ensure appropriate supervision and coverage across all programming
  • Provides clear and timely communication to staff and stakeholders regarding schedules, activity changes, and program updates
  • Designs and implements programs that are meaningful to student success and development
  • Supervises elementary and/or middle school student participants during field trips, presentations, and in-house activities
  • Facilitates the leadership and planning of group enrichment projects, athletics, team-building exercises, workshops, and creative gameplay
  • Models exemplary behavior for elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Promotes life and social skills to elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Facilitates conflict resolution when needed between students, staff, or volunteers and escalates issues to school administrators as needed
  • Interacts with and establishes various partnership venues when designing programs
  • Collaborates with school staff to align afterschool programs with school day programming
  • Communicates with parents/guardians of students regularly regarding schedules, student behavior, events, permissions, and service changes
  • Creates and maintains up-to-date communication channels for families, including Class DOJO
  • Promotes and ensures the safety of all students and staff during after-school, daycare, and summer programs
  • Keeps emergency preparedness plans up to date and ensures staff are trained on procedures
  • Keeps, records, and/or collects accurate daily attendance records for participants
  • Communicates with UCC staff and administration regarding snack and meal planning needs, including ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and resources
  • Collects feedback from staff, students, and families to evaluate and improve program effectiveness
  • Attends and engages in any program-related pieces of training or meetings, including Wisconsin Registry professional development
  • Supports broader agency and school goals and participates in its events
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
