About The Position

Provide therapeutic after school care for the children enrolled at Talitha Koum as part of a Mobius Care plan in which as many hours of a child’s life as possible are filled with nurturing care in an environment where the child feels safe. In a student employee capacity, may assist in working with external community service partners. Train under TKI’s Clinical Team to: learn and use the evidence-based High/Scope interaction strategies for guiding the trauma-adapted behaviors of young children. have a working understanding of the Neurosequential Model and how that lens and approach is used to direct all TKI activities. Follow all required state and federal minimum standards for child care centers. Respond to children by holding, smiling, and speaking in a positive tone of voice. Assist children in developing self-help skills. Plan daily activities that support the child-initiated activities and explorations. Supervise children during afternoon transitions and routines. Supervise and assist children with daily clean-up. Supervise children during toileting or changing diapers. Set up and put away materials and equipment used for after school activities. Attend and participate in Mobius Care staff meetings and training sessions as required. Maintain strict confidentiality of all reports, records, documents, and information concerning children who are or have been enrolled at TKI as well as their family members. Attend to personal spiritual growth. All other duties as assigned. Work with local organization(s) or community partners Provide excellent customer service as a representative of the University May assist with planning, organizing, and implementing community services or programs May assist with various projects, activities or tasks related to community projects May contribute to developing and maintaining good relationships with internal and external partners May serve as a source to provide information about resources and assistance related to community program(s) or service(s) May serve to enhance outreach for the greater Waco community Ensure confidentiality of all pertinent information May prepare and present information in a group or workshop setting Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission Ability to comply with University policies Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Requirements

  • All majors may apply though preference will be given to students majoring in Child & Family Studies, Psychology/Neuroscience, Social Work, and Pre-OT.
  • Must qualify for Federal Work Study Program.
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn and implement TKI’s therapeutic approach.
  • Be reliable and conscientious in carrying out assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate a patient and loving attitude toward young children.
  • Be flexible in working with different age groups.
  • Meet the requirements of law pertaining to convictions of felonies or misdemeanors.
  • Must be skilled at coping with the day-to-day stress of working with children who have challenging behaviors and require a substantial amount of supervision and nurturing care.
  • Must be skilled at understanding, setting, and maintaining appropriate emotional boundaries with children and their families.
  • Must be able to remain non-judgmental about families and their situations.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to cope with the extensive physical demands of maintaining the environment, physically working with children out of control, and getting up and down off of the floor.
