Aerospace Systems Engineer III

BLUE ORIGINWest Melbourne, WA

About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth’s orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space. In this role, you will support the Change Management (CM) process for GS1 while also supporting core systems engineering activities across the program. You will serve as the technical bridge between systems engineering, design, manufacturing, and operations ensuring that GS1 maintains a known, controlled configuration while continuing to progress rapidly toward flight and certification milestones. This position requires a strong systems mindset, comfort operating in a fast-paced development environment, and the ability to apply configuration discipline without slowing execution. You will work across subsystems to manage change, ensure requirements and verification artifacts remain aligned to configuration baselines, and provide program leadership with clear insight into change management health and technical risk.

Requirements

  • Passion for our mission: millions of people living and working in space!
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, change management, or a closely related technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience executing change management activities on complex hardware programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements, verification, and change management.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (aerospace, government, nuclear, medical, etc.).
  • Experience assessing change impacts across technical, schedule, and risk dimensions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across disciplines.
  • Self-directed, highly organized, and capable of balancing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to earn trust, influence without authority, and operate effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
  • Launch vehicle development, qualification, certification, or operations experience.
  • Experience with DOORS Next Gen, PLM/CM tools, and lifecycle data management systems.
  • Experience with verification planning, evidence coordination, and verification closure notices.
  • Familiarity with Windchill, Creo, Confluence, Jira, or similar tools.
  • Experience developing and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Experience working with configuration management of part libraries and complex product structures.
  • Proficiency with data processing or automation tools (e.g., Python, advanced Excel).
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization for program health reporting.
  • Experience leveraging AI or automation to improve systems engineering or change management workflows

Responsibilities

  • Support the GS1 change management process, including change control execution and status accounting.
  • Manage and facilitate change requests, including impact assessment, coordination with stakeholders, and execution through change boards.
  • Ensure known configuration is maintained across requirements, verification artifacts, drawings, parts, and qualification evidence.
  • Lead and/or support change management meetings, ensuring risks, impacts, and dependencies are clearly understood and documented.
  • Partner with systems engineering, design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure smooth transition of changes through the product lifecycle.
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or risks in current CM practices and drive process improvements to increase speed, quality, and clarity.
  • Develop and maintain change management health metrics and reporting to support program and executive insight.
  • Support requirements definition, traceability, validation, and verification across GS1 using tools such as DOORS Next Gen.
  • Ensure alignment between requirements, verification plans, verification evidence, and configuration baselines.
  • Support verification planning and closure, including coordination of evidence and development of verification closure documentation.
  • Participate in element-level and subsystem-level technical discussions to ensure configuration decisions support system intent.
  • Support change impact analysis across requirements, verification, qualification, and certification artifacts.
  • Apply systems engineering best practices to ensure consistency and rigor across GS1 program tiers.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
