About The Position

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for AEA Assistant Stage Managers. CATF, a LORT D (LOA) summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in multiple venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America's coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV. This summer CATF is producing four productions in four venues. Each production will have its own Stage Management team, the size of which varies by the venue and complexity of the production; typical teams are 2-3 people (SM and an ASM and/or PA). A Production Stage Manager (already hired) oversees the Stage Management Department, along with their own show assignment. Ideal candidates will have experience working on new plays (particularly world premieres), and some experience working in a repertory or festival environment (although this is not a rep position). The festival’s dedication to incubating new work can mean script and design adjustments throughout the build and tech process. CATF values those who are able to collaborate toward practical and artistically-sound solutions in a time-sensitive environment. Flexibility and positivity are key. Contract dates vary slightly by production, but are generally: Prep Week: June 2-7 First Rehearsal: June 9 Tech Begins: June 28 or June 30 (based on show) Previews: July 5-10 (based on show, each show has 2 scheduled previews) Opening: July 10-11 Closing: August 2 (all shows) Most rehearsals will take place in Shepherdstown, WV although some shows may partially rehearse in New York. These details will be discussed as part of the interview process. Interested applicants should submit a resume via this website. A cover letter and relevant portfolio (web or PDF) may also be submitted - Electronic submissions only please. Please visit www.catf.org to learn more about us and our upcoming summer season. CATF is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, Veteran status, or ability. CATF makes hiring decisions based solely on qualifications, merit, and business needs at the time.
