About The Position

Thank you for your interest in the Advocacy Corps. This program trains young advocates to work in their own communities, with support and compensation from The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), to organize constituents to lobby Congress. FCNL is a national, nonpartisan Quaker organization that lobbies Congress and the administration to advance peace, justice, and environmental stewardship. We approach lawmakers with respect and open dialogue, using listening and personal stories to find common ground, even when opinions differ. We work with a broad group of people who care about the same issues to build positive relationships with federal officials and encourage support from both sides of the political aisle. More information on FCNL's Theory of Change can be found here . The Advocacy Corps program includes a 10-day hybrid summer intensive training with a few days online, but the majority of the training will take place in Washington, DC as well as participation in FCNL's lobby weekend conference in the spring. You'll be part of a dynamic team of up to 12 young people learning and working together in different parts of the country to make changes on a vital issue. In the Advocacy Corps, you will learn critical organizing skills and put them into practice with hands-on leadership experience. Advocacy Corps organizers will help arrange meetings with members of Congress in their local offices. We'll help you develop a work plan that highlights your strengths and organizing style. Applicants receive a $3,500 stipend over the course of the program for successful work. Please refer to the full job description and see frequently asked questions for additional information. Advocacy Corps Issue (2026-27) As we approach the midterm elections, 2026 will be dominated by the issues of affordability. The cost of health care and food are central to that. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act included some of the largest cuts to health care (Medicaid) and nutrition assistance (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP) in the history of those programs. We know that more than 41 million people receive nutrition assistance from SNAP, and 72 million people receive healthcare coverage from Medicaid. Millions of people could lose their health coverage, and the new costs forced upon states could even lead some to drop out of the SNAP program altogether. For our communities, especially those that are historically marginalized, further insecurity will deepen inequities and vulnerability to violence. However, there is an opportunity to push back and mitigate these cuts. At the same time, this is a moment to assert a proactive vision of what our country should look like when it comes to economic security and justice in the U.S. Organizers in this program will build on the powerful grassroots work already happening around the country in their communities through lobbying their members of Congress to help push for more lasting change.
