About The Position

Birmingham Mind is a leading provider of mental health services in Birmingham and the West Midlands. This role involves providing support to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties through Birmingham Mind’s helpline service, which serves the Birmingham and Solihull area. The support includes handling calls, emails, and webchats from people in crisis, those seeking general assistance and information about services, carers looking for advice, and other community support services. The Helpline Worker will provide appropriate referrals and signposting to Birmingham Mind services and external partner agencies. The role requires a community-focused approach, maintaining effective links with statutory and local organizations and staying updated on local provision changes. The helpline operates 7 days a week from 9 am to 11 pm. The successful candidate will support the service's operation under the direction of the service manager, adhering to contractual requirements, Birmingham Mind's Vision and Values, operating policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Founded in 1962, Birmingham Mind is a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee, affiliated with Mind, committed to supporting people experiencing poor mental health through people-centred, individualized services. The organization collaborates with the NHS, local organizations, communities, and partners to deliver impactful services and challenge mental health stigma.

Requirements

  • At least 6 months’ experience in the mental health field.
  • Experience of supporting people to be in control of their lives.
  • Ability to work with strong values and work within a recovery approach.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK for a minimum of 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for those experiencing mental health difficulties through Birmingham Mind’s helpline service.
  • Receive calls, emails and webchat from people who may be experiencing crisis, people looking for more general assistance and information about services, carers looking for advice and services, and other community support services.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and signposting information about Birmingham Mind services and external partner agencies.
  • Work in a community focused way to ensure that statutory and local organisations are aware of the provision, ensuring that you retain close and effective links with them as well as keeping up to date with any pertinent changes to local provision.
  • Support the running of the service in line with contractual requirements, Birmingham Minds Vision and Values, its operating Policy and Procedures, and any relevant legal requirements.
