About The Position

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Adventure Guide to guide child/adult play interactions in Children’s Adventure Trails exhibit. Adventure Guides help to develop the child’s physical capabilities, cognitive abilities and strengthen social emotional skills. Adventure Guides implement new play activities and model the best child/parent interactions. Adventure Guides strive to enrich children’s natural curiosity through diverse, child-centered explorations.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must have a fun, outgaining, enthusiastic, and imaginative personality.
  • Should enjoy singing, dancing, storytelling, and pretending with children.
  • Ability to multitask, use good judgement and enhance guest experiences while children are playing in the Adventure Trails exhibit.
  • Must have strong guest service and public speaking skills.
  • Must work well under pressure and in diverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to utilize play activities while also allowing for open-ended and multiple outcome experiences with guests in Adventure Trails.
  • Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid driver’s license with a good history.
  • Position requires standing for long periods, walking, and the ability to use hands to signal and feel.
  • Reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch and/or crawl; talk and hear; occasionally sit; frequently lift a minimum of 30-50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors, under all weather conditions.
  • This position requires a minimum of 20 hours of availability weekly during the summer season to include at least one weekend.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) preferred but not required.
  • Training in early childhood teaching techniques preferred but not required.
  • Supervisory experience of children preferred but not required.
  • An ideal candidate embraces children as curious, collaborative, and innovative individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Use open-ended and multiple outcome experiences for children developing their physical, social emotional and cognitive abilities.
  • Maintains a safe, educationally sound, engaging environment for guests.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Connects children with nature through play.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education techniques.
  • Potential for play activities and experiences with guests at the Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park.
  • Other interpretative tasks as assigned, including but not limited to interpretive guided tours and talks.
  • Basic maintenance of Children’s Adventure Trails facilities and supplies.
