About The Position

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Adventure Guide to guide child/adult play interactions in the Children's Adventure Trails exhibit. Adventure Guides help to develop the child's physical capabilities, cognitive abilities and strengthen social emotional skills. Adventure Guides implement new play activities and model the best child/parent interactions. Adventure Guides strive to enrich children's natural curiosity through diverse, child-centered explorations. This position reports directly to the Children's Adventure Trails Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm and imagination. Should enjoy singing, dancing, storytelling, and pretending with children.
  • Ability to multitask, use good judgement and enhance guest experiences while children are playing in the Adventure Trails exhibit.
  • Must have strong guest service and public speaking skills.
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) preferred but not required.
  • Training in early childhood teaching techniques preferred but not required.
  • Supervisory experience of children preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education techniques.
  • Ideal candidate embraces children as curious, collaborative, and innovative individuals.
  • Ability to utilize play activities while also allowing for open-ended and multiple outcome experiences with guests in Adventure Trails.

Responsibilities

  • Use open-ended and multiple outcome experiences for children developing their physical, social emotional and cognitive abilities.
  • Maintain a safe, educationally sound, engaging environment for guests.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Connect children with nature through play.
  • Potential for play activities and experiences with guests at the Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park.
  • Basic maintenance of Children’s Adventure Trails facilities and supplies.
  • Other interpretative tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, interpretive guided tours and talks.
