Join the SBS faculty for the 2026-2027 school year! The Stony Brook School seeks a talented, mission-aligned faculty member to join our Science Department beginning in August 2026. This position will primarily teach Advanced Scientific Research, a signature program at SBS that equips students to pursue original scientific inquiry in a rigorous, mentored, small-class environment. Depending on departmental needs, the role will also include teaching other science courses and candidates with the ability to teach Physics will receive special consideration. Founded in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 7–12 on a 55-acre campus on Long Island's North Shore. We unite academic rigor with authentic Christian faith in a diverse, global community. In Advanced Scientific Research, students develop a formal proposal, engage peer-reviewed literature, design and conduct an investigation, analyze findings, and present their work in professional formats. Final products include a scientific research paper, research poster, oral presentation, and defense at a culminating symposium. The program is strengthened by faculty mentorship, school resources, and, for some seniors, outside research internships during the academic day. Since 2022, students in the program have earned recognition in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Partners for the Future program, Brookhaven National Laboratory research programs, co-authorship in scientific publications, university-based research internships, and admission to highly selective colleges including Caltech, MIT, Stanford, and Princeton. The ideal candidate is an excellent teacher and mentor who can guide students through the research process with rigor, clarity, and encouragement, while contributing to their growth in confidence, maturity, and Christian character. All candidates should have a demonstrable Christian commitment and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Stony Brook School's mission.
