Our team is critical to achieving GM’s vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion. The Role In this role you will be responsible for developing architectures for new propulsion systems as well as improving component and sub-system technologies for cost and efficiency. You'll support a cross functional team in the development of Electrified Propulsion System Architectures through the Advanced Technology Work (ATW) process prior to transition into the Balanced Architecture (BA) GPDP development phase. We’re seeking an engineer who works collaboratively with others and is comfortable with ambiguity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in drive unit or transmission product engineering.
  • Ability to take ambiguous problems and define a tangible approach to identify optimal solutions.
  • Showcase a wide range of creativity and latitude on challenging assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, project management and negotiating skills.
  • DFSS Black Belt

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion engineering.
  • Experience with Unigraphics NX or other CAD software

Responsibilities

  • Balance vehicle and propulsion system requirements using systems engineering and competitive assessments
  • Continuously benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative technologies for electric and ICE vehicles.
  • Support propulsion system architect to develop systems to meet key performance and cost targets by working collaboratively with VDDV, Cost Engineering and Planning
  • Ensure analytical models, initial component designs and controls of key electrification systems and components have been developed for a successful hand-off to the Balanced Architecture team
  • Engage with advanced vehicle design for support on propulsion system development and integration
  • Engage with GM R&D to provide input on advanced research projects and participate in future development thereof
  • Lead component or system trade off studies to select optimized solutions to meet vehicle requirements of range, performance, drive quality, and cost while balancing component proliferation
  • Contribute to best practices for new drive unit and hybrid propulsion systems including architecture selection, improved component technologies, and improved system level cost and efficiency improvements.
  • Protect intellectual property (IP) by documenting your new ideas for invention board review and subsequent patent submissions.
