This pivotal, highly visible role sits within our Global Manufacturing Engineering Architecture and Program Delivery department and helps shape future model programs to be leaders in the industry. The Architecture Team acts on early insights with the Product Development Team to optimize all aspects of new model production. As part of this team, you will interact directly with leadership to deliver the following as it relates to the three major Manufacturing functions of Body Construction Engineering, Global Paint Engineering, and Final Assembly Engineering with particular focus on vehicle assembly plant implementation of Propulsion systems i.e. ICE, hybrid technologies (sPHEV, PHEV, FHEV), etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or a combination of equivalent experience and education
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience with Propulsion systems to vehicle assembly
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office experience includes Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven experience conducting work in a virtual environment utilizing 3D tools is required
  • Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles required
  • Ability to deliver in stressful situations with self-motivation and minimal direct supervision within timing constraints

Nice To Haves

  • Mastering Engineering Degree
  • Experience with underbody system (ex. HV battery, suspension, cab/frame, etc.) decking processes and tooling preferred
  • Practical assembly tooling implementation experience preferred
  • Vehicle launch experience in Final Assembly processes expected
  • Layout design experience with AutoCAD proficiency is an asset
  • Established leadership and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present complicated concepts to an audience with a broad range of experiences
  • Effective creativity to find solutions to unstructured or highly constrained problems

Responsibilities

  • Drive a Design For Assembly mindset into new model vehicle part development by regularly collaborating with the Product Development team to generate facility & tooling impact, improve quality, and reduce labor requirements
  • Develop manufacturing point of view on architecture strategy and align with Product Development to execute future product lines
  • Initiate and collaborate with Manufacturing Core Teams on the development of the build sequence, installation processes, and tooling strategies for new product launches
  • Quantify manufacturing and facility impact to launch new model programs including facility, tooling, and labor for all manufacturing functions
  • Use virtual tools, such as TeamCenter, and Vismockup to evaluate the feasibility of new model designs for assembly operations
  • Remotely assess existing facility layouts to analyze assembly processes using Vault and AutoCAD for planning future work
  • Assess all product designs/concepts for adherence to our Global Manufacturing Requirements
  • Evaluate "Lessons Learned" from New Model launches and implement Prevent Reoccurrence Actions into future programs
  • Evaluate and assess competitive vehicle information i.e. benchmarking relative to manufacturing and processing of end item parts, sub-assemblies, and fastening/joining to determine incorporation on future product and develop next-generation ideas
  • Collaborate in a multi-functional team of Program Delivery teams, Product Development, Marketing, Program Planning, Supplier Technical Assistance, Material Planning & Logistics, New Model Programs, etc. in early product planning workshops
  • Travel to our North American assembly plants for site reviews as required
