The Oklahoma Heart Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Surgery Advanced Practitioner to join our dynamic team. This critical role involves providing direct patient care within the Surgery Department and across other areas of the hospital as needed. The Surgery Advanced Practitioner will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, conducting routine equipment checks, and actively participating in team collaboration to provide high-quality patient-focused care. The position offers a unique opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility with a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in surgical care. As a Surgery Advanced Practitioner, you will operate within the specialized field of perioperative services, providing advanced clinical care in a surgical environment. This role includes performing critical intraoperative tasks, guided by evidence-based practices. The key duties include: Handling and/or cutting tissue during surgeries Providing surgical exposure for optimal visibility Using surgical instruments and medical devices effectively Performing suturing and wound closure Managing hemostasis during procedures Conducting saphenous vein harvesting as part of specific surgical procedures This position is classified as safety-sensitive, meaning it has the potential to affect the safety and health of the individual in the role, as well as others within the hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner- National certification from a national certifying body acceptable by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing in the following specialties: Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AG-AC NP) or Acute Care Current BLS certification required. ACLS certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Physician's Assistant - Baccalaureate degree or a minimum of two years of college credit or graduate from ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on education for the Physician Assistant) approved program. Current license as a Physician Assistant with the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure.
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist –Completion of a formal program of study approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing which is designed to prepare registered nurses to perform in an expanded role in the delivery of health care. National certification from a national certifying body acceptable by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing in Acute Care. (Or hold a specialty certification as a clinical nurse specialist valid on January 1, 1994, granted by a national certifying organization recognized by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and deemed to be a clinical nurse specialist under the provisions of the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current BLS certification required. ACLS certification within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Surgery Department and other areas as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations relevant to surgical practices and patient care.
  • Participate in routine checks and maintenance of surgical equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Collaborate with the Surgery Director, Manager, and interdisciplinary team to optimize resource utilization and improve patient outcomes.
  • Assist in cross-training of staff to enhance team competency and efficiency in the Surgery Department.
  • Support hospital initiatives and projects that align with the hospital’s mission and core values.
  • Promote a teamwork-driven environment focused on delivering patient-centered care.
