About The Position

The Geisinger Neuroscience Institute is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for our Neuroscience Advanced Practice Fellowship Program. The qualified candidate, under the responsibility and supervision of a physician, will participate in diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to further educate the PA or NP fellowship in neuroscience knowledge, patient care decision-making, and patient care management. The AP Fellow will collaborate with the neurologists and neurosurgeons to provide care to new or established patients, assure continuity of care and advocacy for patients, and served as a liaison between physicians and patients. Additionally, the AP Fellow will collaborate with medical staff members, nursing personnel, and other departmental staff to coordinate patient care requirements. The AP Fellow will spend 12 months in neuroscience completing rotations in Neurodiagnostics, General Neurology, Epilepsy, Neuromuscular, Consultative Neurology, Stroke, Vascular Neurosurgery, Spine Surgery, Neurosurgical Oncology, Neurotrauma, Neuro-Critical Care, and an elective in a concentration area of the resident’s choice. The AP Resident will have a combined clinical and didactic curriculum throughout the full 12 months. The AP Fellow reports directly to the physician for all patient care-related functions and the Residency Director for all other residency-related functions.

Requirements

  • Physician Assistant candidate will require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification, and Pennsylvania State licensure.
  • Nurse Practitioner candidate will require completion of an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position.
  • Must be licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
  • Master's Degree-Healthcare Related Degree (Required)
  • Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
  • Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Responsibilities
