This is an Open Competitive Advanced Practice Registered Nurse position in the Lee County Department of Health. Your Specific Responsibilities: The incumbent in this position is under the supervision of the Executive Community Health Nursing Director. The incumbent will work under the policies, procedures and protocols of the Department of Health and physician signing the incumbent’s protocols. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA and Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information. This position has access to the following information sets: Medical Records, Lab, STD, HIV testing and HMS. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days. Evening clinic and weekend outreach events may be required. Provides clinical care for clients at Lee CHD sites. Acute health conditions may be assessed and treated as necessary according to the nurse practitioner’s educational specialty, experiences, and scope of practice. Duties may include but are not limited to reproductive health visits, STD assessments, providing follow up care, health counseling, and referrals, as appropriate. Develops and reviews health histories. Selects orders and interprets specific diagnostic tests and procedures such as: Papanicolaou smears, cultures, wet mounts, urinalysis, blood counts, and imaging studies. Diagnoses and treatment of minor, acute, and/or ambulatory conditions such as vaginitis, PID, STDs, and other reproductive health conditions. Counsels, orders, and manages contraceptives, which may include placement and removal of long-term devices such as intrauterine devices (IUD) and sub-dermal implants. Counsels regarding mistimed pregnancies and safe sex practices. Practice will be in keeping with collaborative practice agreement with health department medical director. Consults with physician and specialists regarding difficult cases. Promotes good health habits in clients such as healthy diet and exercise. Refers clients to the hospital and other community agencies as necessary. Completes and attends mandatory trainings and team meetings. Initiates and completes opportunities for professional development. Prepares biweekly leaves/attendance records and daily employee activity records (EARs). Assists with PrEP, nPEP, and Test and Treat implementation into all clinic services including ongoing clinical support. Provides education and mentorship to staff. Attends in-services and meetings on behalf of service expansion efforts. Enters HMS service codes on the date of service and marks the superbill appropriately. Completes e-lab requisitions for necessary labs. Participates in orientation and staff development of personnel assisting with patient care. Functions as a resource for primary care and communicable disease information for nursing staff and other community health staff. Provides input that assures positive patient experience and efficient clinic flow. Including phlebotomy, assessing vital signs, conducting educational seminars, and assignment during disaster, etc. May provide clinical care in other departments of the agency as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
