Under general supervision of the Attending Physician, in collaboration with other clinical staff, the Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for evaluation and development of treatment plans for patients admitted to the gynecology service. This role provides expert gynecologic consultation for inpatient and emergency department patients. Key responsibilities include history and physicals, ongoing assessment and intervention, coordination of inpatient care, surgical first assisting, and discharge planning. The provider is expected to communicate and coordinate effectively with supervising physicians and other health professionals regarding the care of gynecology/gyn-oncology patients, as well as Obstetrics <20 weeks. They must clearly communicate with patients and their families, and provide superior customer service. The position involves identifying and assessing problems during patient interviews and examinations, ordering and interpreting lab and imaging studies, prescribing medications, completing paperwork, and formulating treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician. The Advanced Practice Provider will perform various medical procedures such as fetal heart tones, endometrial biopsies, IUD placement, incision and drainage of abscess, suture/staple removal, drain removals, cervical biopsy, and wound management. They will also provide pre and post-operative patient education, act as surgical first assist for a variety of gynecology and gyn-oncology procedures, and manage inpatient and outpatient gynecology issues, including perioperative care. The role requires working collaboratively with the supervising physician to manage post-operative patients in PACU, floor, or ICU, and covering first call from the office answering service during after-hours. Additionally, the provider will perform Basic and Advanced Life Support measures as necessary, participate in data collection and research, report deviations of normal operations, and engage in risk management activities. They are accountable for abiding by hospital policies and procedures, demonstrating respect for all individuals, and communicating effectively with diverse customers.
