About The Position

This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive medical, preventive, and therapeutic health care services through a clinic-centered approach, including home visits and community outreach. The APP will manage the overall medical needs of patients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensed in Alaska as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (required within one year of hire).
  • DEA registration.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and proof of personal liability insurance.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Proficient in time management, multitasking, and independent decision-making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Competence in physical assessment, patient education, and clinical oversight.
  • Must pass initial and random drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Federal criminal background check required for covered positions.
  • First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Annual TB screening.
  • Must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing, and privileging.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in a rural health care setting.
  • Two years of experience as a Mid-Level Practitioner (MLP).

Responsibilities

  • Assess health status and practices of individuals and families through histories, observation, and physical exams.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans with periodic follow-up.
  • Prescribe medications and treatments for common health conditions.
  • Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Coordinate patient follow-up with Community Health Aides and RN Case Manager.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant medical records in the EHR system.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with IHS, tribal, and non-tribal providers.
  • Refer patients to specialty clinics and external providers as needed.
  • Guide and support the organization’s vaccination and Community Health Aide programs.
  • Assist in formulary development with medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health staff.
  • Participate in community wellness initiatives.
  • Plan, evaluate, and coordinate clinic services and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
