Advanced Practice Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Urology SUMMARY The primary function of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is to assist supervising physicians in providing direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care. The APP will deliver care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable to support the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness. Responsibilities include counseling and educating patients and their families about disease and illness. This role will function in both the outpatient clinic and the operating room, with work locations at Houston/Katy and MDACC Main Campus in the Texas Medical Center. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in Urology and/or Surgery, must be able to work independently and exercise a high level of autonomy in clinical decision-making. APRNs must hold Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification to function in the operating room. Salary Range: Minimum $117,500.00 - Midpoint $146,500.00 - Maximum $176,500.00

Requirements

  • Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant
  • Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience in Urology and/or Surgery, must be able to work independently and exercise a high level of autonomy in clinical decision-making.
  • APRNs must hold Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification to function in the operating room.

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical history and perform physical examinations on patients.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests and radiographic results to formulate management plans in collaboration with faculty physicians.
  • Take responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Document clinical encounters and care plans for all patients seen.
  • Review and order diagnostic tests and radiographic studies as clinically appropriate.
  • Formulate, implement, and monitor patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Perform as first or second assist in operative cases requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Perform procedures, prescribe treatments, and sign prescriptions in accordance with institutional and state requirements.
  • Provide patient and family education, including responding to calls and addressing care concerns.
  • Collaborate in research projects, assist with protocol development, and apply research findings to clinical practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.
