About The Position

APP - Gastroenterology - Christiansburg, VA Carilion Clinic has a full time APP opportunity with Gastroenterology in Christiansburg, VA . This is a patient-focused gastroenterology practice providing comprehensive care for digestive and liver disorders. We are seeking a motivated and compassionate APP (NP or PA) to join our gastroenterology team. The APP will work collaboratively with gastroenterologists to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with gastrointestinal conditions in an outpatient settings. Hours are Monday- Friday; 8-5.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program or Accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Experience: Minimum of three 3 years of clinical experience preferred. Additional experience may be required for some specialties.
  • Licensure, certification, and/or registration: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NPR, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic’s malpractice insurance carrier. Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with GI conditions (e.g., GERD, IBS, IBD, liver disease)
  • Conduct patient histories, physical exams, and follow-up visits
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and lab results
  • Develop and manage treatment plans under physician collaboration
  • Provide patient education on conditions, medications, and procedures
  • Document care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Participate in quality improvement and care coordination initiatives
