About The Position

Join University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant). This role is responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management, including managing a caseload of patients by exercising autonomous decision-making in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The APP will provide healthcare and patient services, which may include educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, and will complete administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The APP is expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and judgment to assist physicians through organized instruction and supervised practice. This is a 100% onsite opportunity, requiring the candidate to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Requirements

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Emergency Department experience as a Nurse Practitioner (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program (for Physician Assistant)
  • Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure / registration (for Physician Assistant)
  • Emergency Department experience (for Physician Assistant)
  • Complete a pre-employment physical
  • Background check
  • Drug screening
  • Comply with the flu vaccination requirements prior to hire

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management

  • Complete administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership
  • Taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing illness
  • Pre and post-operative patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests
  • Provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services
