About The Position

The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of patients with Neurological Disease, treating patients with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as other Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology diagnosis. This APP position functions in a team-based arrangement that is part of the newly formed South Carolina Alzheimer’s Network (SCAN). SCAN is a multi-site clinical program at MUSC health designed to provide patients with an early and accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, longitudinal co-management with primary care, access to the new Alzheimer’s disease medications, and access to the latest research. The person filling this position will be part of an interdisciplinary team working to achieve these goals and will have ample opportunity to collaborate with other team members and primary care providers to enhance the care of dementia patients and their families. The ideal candidate is an individual looking to optimize their practice while thriving within a team-based environment.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification : Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or APNP) with the SC Board of Nursing.
Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Responsibilities

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
Assesses, diagnoses, and manages outpatients with neurological symptoms, primarily to patients presenting with Alzheimer’s Disease or other Cognitive & Behavioral Neurological disease.
Recognizes and assesses changes in patient status, intervening when necessary.
Implements measures to minimize risk.
Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
Documents and bills for direct care provided
Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practices
Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
