About The Position

MUSC Health – Midlands Division is seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Providers. In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across Columbia Medical Center – Downtown, Columbia Medical Center – Northeast, and Kershaw Medical Center. The ideal candidate will provide a full scope of diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services, while also contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required for adult inpatient positions
  • DHEC and DEA license

Nice To Haves

  • Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, License Type/Certification Physician Assistant or APRN FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): With current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification
  • FNP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification
  • At least 2 years of Emergency Room experience as a PA or NP

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief: Administration of Local and Digital Anesthesia Complicated and Uncomplicated Repair of Lacerations Removal of Foreign Bodies from Eyes, Ears, Nose, Skin, and Wounds Trepination of Subungual Hematomas Incision and Drainage of Abscesses Urethral Catheterization Placement of Peripheral Venous Access Placement of Central Lines [with proof of competency] Placement of Thoracostomy Endotracheal Intubation [with proof of competency] ACLS Arterial Puncture Venipuncture Lumbar Puncture [with proof of competency] Application of Splints Arthrocentesis
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
