About The Position

UVA Health is seeking a PA or NP to join its growing Cancer Center Emergency Response Team (CERT)/Oncology Same Day Care Clinic (OSDC) advanced practice provider (APP) Service. The APP hired for this position will join a collaborative team of physicians, other APPs, and specialists managing a population of acute / chronic oncology patients at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA within UVA School of Medicine's Division of Hematology-Oncology / Medical Oncology and UVA Health's Center for Advanced Practice. Following a 2-4 month onboarding process (experience dependent), newly hired APPs will provide management of same day care of oncology patients in clinic representing a broad spectrum of acute and chronic disease states in a practice model that emphasizes independence with the support and collaboration of physician colleagues. Further the APP will respond to all infusion reactions and building emergencies. Their role will be in the outpatient area of the UVA infusion centers. Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
Experience: Department and unit specific.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Nice To Haves

2+ years as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) with a strong background in critical care or emergent/urgent care.
Oncology experience preferred but not required; applicants with an interest in oncology and complex acute care are encouraged to apply.
Must demonstrate a high level of clinical autonomy, excellent critical thinking, and the ability to practice independently in a fast-paced environment.
ACLS certification required (may be obtained upon hire).
Collaborative, adaptable, and skilled in communicating within a multidisciplinary team setting.

Responsibilities

Participates within the organizational systems of the service, unit and institution, initiatives that promote and contribute to the development of the APP, RN and other colleagues.
Evaluates/augments quality initiatives to benefit quality of care and patient safety.
Investigates, utilizes, communicates and participates in the development and utilization of scientific knowledge via research and Evidence-Based Practice.
Self-motivated learning, engagement in process improvement and quality improvement initiatives.
Evaluates individual clinical practice, role performance via regulatory, state and institutional guidelines.
CERT is an ACLS APP Team that responds and manages all emergencies in the infusion center as well as specific areas of each building location.
Manage and treat patients in the Oncology Same Day Care (clinic operational hours subject to change to meet patient needs).
Aid the cellular therapy team with patient supportive care visits on weekends.
Take call for the medical-oncology service line on weekends and limited AM/PM hours.
Perform and document history & physical exams, and analyzing clinical data to form well-developed differential diagnoses.
Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, following patient responses, and adjusting the plan of care based on ongoing objective and subjective data collection.
Identify appropriate sub-specialist consultation.
Effectively communicate plans of care with patients, families, nurses, and other stakeholders; and navigating complex psychosocial dynamics.
Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists, and physician and advanced practice leadership.
The ability to professionally lead other members of the care team in a dynamic environment.
Participate within organizational initiatives that promote the development of colleagues (APP, RN, others).
Evaluate/augment quality initiatives and participate in evidence-based practice to improve outcomes and safety.
