About The Position

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine is seeking an energetic individual for a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position within the In-Patient Pulmonary Vascular Disease program in the Comprehensive Lungs and Breathing (CLB) Program of the University of Colorado Hospital. The position would hold the title of Instructor of Medicine within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. The Division oversees a regionally and internationally recognized referral center for the care of patients with all forms of pulmonary disease and critical illness. The Pulmonary Vascular Disease program is a certified Pulmonary Hypertension Cater Center (PHCC), the first in the Rocky Mountain Region), and the only CTEPH and HHT centers in the region. We have an active PE response team which coordinates the acute care of this patient population at the Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC). The responsibilities would include the assessment and ongoing management of patients with underlying pulmonary vascular disease such as Pulmonary Hypertension, Chronic Thromboembolic Disease, and Pulmonary Embolism. The provider would work closely with the physicians within the Comprehensive Lung and Breathing Program within the Pulmonary Vascular Disease pillar and would care for patients on the inpatient pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism response teams (PERT). The provider would help organize the multi-disciplinary conferences for these respective services and help gather and present data within these conferences.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Nurse Practitioners should be board certified or board eligible for certification in acute care
  • Physician’s Assistants should have acute and/or critical care experience
  • Eligible or licensed in Colorado (would need to obtain CO license before working)
  • Certified to see adolescents and adults
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with multiple medical providers and disciplines
  • Excellent bedside manner and physical exam skills

Nice To Haves

  • General Internal Medicine knowledge base (advanced lung disease and critical illness-related specialized knowledge and skills are desirable but not required as they will be obtained as on-the-job training).
  • Pulmonary Medicine, Intensive Care, or Subspecialty background preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient assessment and care of patients with pulmonary vascular disease.
  • Assisting physicians in the care of this same patient population.
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary conferences and presentation of patients within these same conferences.
  • Scheduling of evaluations and tests
  • Engaging and communicating with consulting services.
  • Enrollment and follow-up of patients in clinical trials, where appropriate.
  • Occasional follow up of in-patients in the ambulatory setting.
