About The Position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the U.S. Veterans Health Administration by managing a high volume of patient interactions and administrative tasks. This position involves monitoring patient encounters, scheduling appointments, and providing guidance to staff while ensuring efficient workflow and quality of service. The AMSA is responsible for training new employees, resolving workplace issues, and maintaining effective communication with patients and healthcare teams.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work is required, or one year above high school education, or a combination of both.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient encounters and consults for primary work assignment.
  • Assist with scheduling new consult appointments and secondary coverage as needed.
  • Provide input on performance and resolve daily workplace issues.
  • Ensure accurate and timely scheduling of appointments.
  • Guide section staff members on changes in policies and procedures.
  • Orient and train new and current employees on job responsibilities.
  • Organize the work structure of assigned areas and balance workload among staff.
  • Report conflicts between AMSA and staff to the Lead MSA for resolution.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams.
