The Advanced Composites Lead will lead the day-to-day composites operations and ensure compliance with all specifications to maintain a high standard of quality. The role will assist composite technicians, providing guidance and direction while ensuring compliance with shop rules. The Advanced Composites Lead will be hands-on and involved in the daily activities and oversee the completion of the assignments of the Advanced Composite team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a composite shop
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Ability to operate small hand tool skills (drills, sanders, grinders)
  • Ability to work in and lead a small team
  • Ability to write and communicate instructions effectively
  • Knowledge of basic shop math

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of the use and application of adhesives, sealants, primers, and composites
  • Familiarity with detailed blueprints and other similar authorized drawings and documents
  • Outstanding record of overcoming obstacles with limited resources in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work overtime as needed including weekends

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper ply orientation and counts and ensure proper part conformity
  • Prepare molds for layup and maintain mold surface quality
  • Allocate available labor resources to ensure production schedules are met
  • Assist in training and monitoring composite shop staff
  • Ensure materials and counts are correct before lamination
  • Optimize overlaps to eliminate unnecessary weight while maintaining structural integrity
  • Prepare vacuum bags per general bagging and debagging procedures
  • Operate ovens and autoclaves ensuring vacuum is maintained throughout
  • Observe and maintain material out-life throughout lamination process
  • Track material usages and ensure accurate inventory counts
  • Ensure daily shop clean up procedures are followed
