Requirements

  • Master’s degree in health, social services, social work, healthcare administration, gerontology, disability studies, criminal justice, or public administration (preferred for managing Master’s-level interns); Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields plus 1 year of health or human services experience; Associate degree in one of the above fields plus 4 years of health or human services experience; 4 years of law enforcement or criminal investigation experience.
  • Ability to relate well to persons with disabilities and older individuals, respecting their privacy and dignity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and diverse environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple service requests in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Teams).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passage of complete background clearance and other required testing.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of liability insurance.
  • Support for the Codes of Ethics established by Catholic Charities USA, NASW, and APA.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face investigations and comprehensive assessments of alleged abuse, neglect, exploitation, or self-neglect.
  • Receive and document reports of abuse, neglect, self-neglect or exploitation of older adults and persons with disabilities.
  • Conduct case consultations with the Adult Protective Services Supervisor for investigation strategies and supports. Make imminent referrals for emergency services such as medical care, law enforcement, and basic needs.
  • Prioritize and respond to client needs within specified time frames.
  • Work effectively with co-workers and other community agencies.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, conferences, and workshops.
  • Be an active member of the APS Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • Document all activities on required forms, adhering to APS program policies and time frames.
  • Other duties as assigned within the guidelines of this position.
