About The Position

Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity for a Full Time Adult Instructor at our Adult Day Program in Hillsborough, NJ. This position operates Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Matheny's mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for children and adults with special needs and medically complex developmental disabilities. Founded by Walter and Marquerite Matheny in 1951, the Matheny of today is a pioneer in providing fully integrated, personalized care and education that respects each person's dignity and encourages their highest potential. At Matheny, we focus on abilities in a warm and nurturing environment. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes seven licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with persons with developmentally disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Addresses the needs of the patient population in an age appropriate manner.
  • Identifies the needs of patients through on-going assessments, instructional methods, and monitoring programs.
  • Provides instructional programs which meet the individual needs of patients.
  • Completes program documentation in accordance with divisional requirements; maintains patient files containing current information related to the patient's program.
  • Responsible for case management of assigned patients; Reviews all documentation generated by team members; Facilitates progress meetings and creates reports.
  • Consults with other members of the interdisciplinary team to assemble information consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient; Ensures appropriate instruction is integrated into the patients' overall programs.
  • Provides additional training in areas outside of specialty instruction.
