Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in gerontology, psychology, social work, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Strong telephone and computer skills with the ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced workload
  • Proven ability to multitask, adapt quickly, and think on your feet
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly and compassionately explain complex information
  • Demonstrated ability to provide information, assistance, counseling, and referrals to vulnerable populations
  • Willingness and ability to learn and retain detailed information related to Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance programs
  • Successful completion of all required SHIP training and ongoing continuing education

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or familiarity with resources for older adults, individuals with physical disabilities, and individuals with mental or cognitive limitations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Answering incoming calls to the ADRC phone line and completing accurate intake and referral forms for ADRC, AAAIL, and GRADD community programs
  • Responding promptly to phone and email inquiries and ensuring timely, accurate data entry in the state-required database (Mon Ami)
  • Assessing client needs and providing clear, unbiased information, education, and referrals related to long-term supports, public benefits, and private care options
  • Supporting the ADRC/SHIP Coordinator during Medicare Open Enrollment (AEP/OEP), including in-person and phone-based client meetings
  • Assisting with prescription assistance services and benefits counseling outside of the enrollment period
  • Providing individual counseling services in compliance with program guidelines (non-legal, non-attorney advocacy)
  • Assisting with applications for Medicare Savings Programs and Low-Income Subsidy (Extra Help)
  • Maintaining strict client confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
  • Participating in outreach, education events, trainings, staff meetings, and special projects throughout the GRADD region
