About The Position

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for successfully developing and implementing individualized educational plans which incorporate the behavioral care and treatment of the student. He/she will evaluate the student based on age, psychological, behavioral, and educational needs, and determine which lessons and treatment plans are most appropriate in meeting the desired goals and objectives for the individual student.  The days/hours of operation for the Special Education Program will be based in general on that of the Searcy Public School Systems.  Some exceptions may be required based on needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Instructional Specialist in grades 4 -12
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Should possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Will need to be proficient in the mathematical concepts of basic algebra and geometry, including but not limited to: calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly, with or without accommodations
  • Specific vision abilities are also necessary, with or without accommodations, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • The associate may frequently be required to stand, walk, and/or use hands to touch, handle, feel or reach objects
  • He/she must be physically capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds
  • Must be capable of working in a high stress environment

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of four (4) years teaching experience in a special education program in a school or other similar setting is preferred – other experience may be considered
  • Teaching experience in a residential or acute care behavioral health setting is preferred
