About The Position

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services. FLSA StatusNon-Exempt Job Role SummaryThe Admissions Specialist is the first point of contact and forms the initial impression of the Assessment and Intervention Center (“AIC”) for all individuals accessing the AIC. This position is key to the experience of all individuals who may access the AIC including community and public agency representatives, potential clients seeking care at the AIC, and the public. This position is responsible for ensuring a positive, productive, and safe visit for all individuals to the AIC with a special emphasis on the welcoming and processing of individuals admitted to the AIC.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Six (6) months of administrative coordination experience preferred
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Basic knowledge of behavioral health
  • Basic knowledge of substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Advanced knowledge of client rights and responsibilities
  • Basic computer skills
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to be both clear and concise in written and verbal communications
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve efficiently
  • Ability to perform safety interventions including physical safety interventions
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to meet all population-specific competencies for role and service areas

Responsibilities

  • Embraces, understands, and operates under the Recovery Model, including AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) and the spirit of motivational interviewing.

  • Welcomes and assists all individuals who engage the AIC, interacting with all internal and external customers in an empathetic, caring, respectful and problem-solving manner
  • Assists with answering multiple phone lines, receiving and processing referrals to the AIC, as well as assembling, gathering and entering demographic information
  • Registers and documents client information in designated electronic health record system
  • Connects client to team members for assessment and ongoing linkage
  • Completes client belongings inventories
  • Performs safety check of clients and client possessions utilizing a metal detector wand or other security-approved devices
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment at all times through on-going assessment of environment
  • Recognizes signs as to when to involve on-site security as needed
  • Recognizes need for and requests additional support from advanced care providers as appropriate
  • Thinks quickly and reacts calmly while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Performs a variety of clerical and client service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations in the facility
  • Completes all required documentation accurately and timely
  • Meets agency requirements for continuing education
