About The Position

The Admissions Specialist position is for the Admitting ER department at Texas Health Allen, a PRN (as needed) role. This role involves welcoming patients and their families, accurately gathering complete demographic information to ensure electronic health record integrity, identifying correct network coverage, and validating healthcare benefits or pre-certification to maximize reimbursement. The specialist will also educate patients and families about legal, ethical, and compliance documents, ensuring regulatory consents are signed, and engage with patients regarding financial obligations, preparing estimates, and collecting co-payments, self-pay deposits, and patient balances. The Admitting Department offers a great working environment with learning opportunities, a fast-paced multi-department setting, and a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere, allowing interaction with all other hospital departments. Training includes one week of system training and at least two weeks of classroom training, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. Texas Health Allen is an 88-bed acute-care hospital serving the community since 2000, specializing in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, advanced cardiology, electrophysiology, orthopedic and spine treatments, as well as comprehensive women's and infant care. It holds multiple certifications including Joint Commission Gold Seal Certification as a Chest Pain facility, Level II Maternal and NICU designations, and recognition as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • CLIAFE must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required
  • 1 year relevant customer service experience required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within 90 days of hire and maintained annually
  • Ability to promptly assess requests by using electronic and paper resource materials and correctly respond to patient inquiries.
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigational skills, with attention to details.
  • Proficient computer skills, medical terminology, Epic, Microsoft Office and assorted software programs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a highly stressful and emotional environment, to include crime, behavioral health and suffering patients in addition to life or death situations.
  • Must be able to exhibit a high level of empathy with the ability to effectively communicate with patients and family members during life changing events, while demonstrating exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with all levels of people.
  • Ability to type, spell, write, print legibly documentation and keyboarding skills.
  • Medical terminology, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, follow protocols and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred
  • 2 years professional office/healthcare experience in a hospital setting preferred
  • 5 years customer service experience preferred
  • 6 months of demonstrated knowledge of intermediate computer skills preferred
  • 1 year healthcare, referral processing, scheduling preferred
  • CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate preferred
  • Bi-lingual a plus

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and their families when they arrive, putting them at ease and setting the tone for the rest of the visit.
  • Accurately gather complete demographic information to ensure electronic health record integrity consistent with high reliability organization principles.
  • Identify correct network coverage and obtain and/or validate healthcare benefits and/or pre-certification for applicable tests and/or procedures to maximize reimbursement for services rendered.
  • Educate patients and/or families about applicable legal, ethical, and compliance documents; ensure regulatory consents are signed by the appropriate parties.
  • Engage with patients in understanding their financial obligations based on the financial policy and accurately prepare estimates to collect co-payments, self-pay deposits, and patient balances.
