About The Position

Purpose of Position:  With broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, is responsible for non-medical functions relating directly to patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assists in planning and organizing the operations of the Department of Admissions; performs related work.

Requirements

  • 1. A Baccalaureate Degree issued upon the completion of a four-year course in Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in a progressively responsible supervisory or administrative position, performing admissions duties, in a hospital or similar institution with one-hundred-and-fifty or more beds; or,
  • 2. High school Diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a High School Equivalency Diploma plus five years of full-time experience as described in (1) above; or,
  • 3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the performance of all admissions functions including liaison between the Admissions Office and the Medical-Surgical staff; liaison with the hospital support staff including Medical Records, Housekeeping, Dietary and Nursing relating to the scheduling of admissions, bed availability and utilization.
  • Establishes operational goals, record management and forms control and informational programs.
  • Conducts departmental management studies, including studies of organization, methods and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations regarding modifications and improvement of systems.
  • Responsible for the prompt and accurate completion of all admission and preadmission forms.
  • Supervises collection of data on condition and status of patients.
  • Maintains patient roster and control of visitors.
  • Directs administrative and clerical functions relating to processing of patient registration.
  • Responsible for census control involving the compiling and maintenance of accurate patient census, bed availability and collection of all related statistics.
  • Directs the functions for receiving and processing of advance notifications of patients' admissions and discharges.
  • Directs the processing of inter and intra hospital transfers.
  • Supervises initial control of patient's clothing, property and valuables.
