About The Position

The University of Pennsylvania, a world-renowned Ivy League institution and the largest private employer in Philadelphia, is seeking an Admissions Counselor. This role is crucial in the recruitment, evaluation, selection, and enrollment of candidates for Penn's undergraduate schools. The Admissions Counselor will serve as a speaker for prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, and alumni, managing inquiries via phone and email. Working with the Enrollment Team, the counselor will review and recommend applicants from a specific geographic region and territory. The position emphasizes a team-oriented approach to enroll a diverse and highly accomplished student body, fostering intentional equity and collective care throughout the application review process and engagement with students and families. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts and 1 to 2 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills plus the ability to balance an individual schedule with multiple organizational calendars/schedules within a high-volume and timeline driven process.
  • Dynamic written communication, customer service, public speaking, teamwork, and collaboration skills are required.
  • The job requires a valid driver's license and the ability to work nights and weekends.

  • Volunteer, leadership, or professional experience in higher education, college counseling, managing volunteers, or familiarity with evaluating applications are appreciated

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the annual comprehensive evaluation and selection process for both first-year and transfer students.
  • Support office-wide programs and projects, as assigned, to support the work of Penn Admissions.
  • Frequently support the Admissions Visit Center and Client Care in daily staffing, welcoming visitors, supporting daily virtual or in-person programming, and handling inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
  • Manage a geographic territory to identify, recruit, and yield candidates.
  • Lead a variety of virtual and in-person recruitment activities, including evening and/or weekend programs, school visits, college fairs, and regional alumni programs.
  • Engage in 1-3 weeks of recruitment travel.
