About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for supporting the Admissions Office in identifying, expanding, attracting and enrolling an academically talented and diverse student body. The Admissions Counselor acts as the College’s representative for all aspects of the admissions operation both on and off campus. They play a key support and organizational role related to all aspects of the work: from recruitment and outreach to territory management to yield to data analysis. This is a full-time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $49,307 - $58,473 per year. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extending to a second additional year. The anticipated start date for this position is July 2026, and application review will start mid-April.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Familiarity with Middlebury College or a residential liberal arts setting required.
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the College in a positive way to varied constituencies and diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong systems and technology/computer capabilities.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively.
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant work experience in college admissions, counseling or student affairs area preferred.
  • Recent Middlebury graduate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the College virtually and in-person in various contexts and locations.
  • Evaluate admissions applications and participate equally in committee deliberations and decisions, managing an assigned geographic territory and serving as its primary contact.
  • Coordinate one or more programs or activities in the office, which could include tour guides, visit programs, communications, interviews, and/or equity outreach.
  • Respond to inquiries and explain admissions procedures to constituents in a timely manner.
  • Plan on-campus, regional, and virtual events that help to inform and attract prospective students to the College.
  • Collaborate frequently with other College offices on campus when planning events.
  • Identify and establish relationships with schools, CBOs, and other community organizations that will increase the College’s efforts at expanding its outreach to underserved student populations.
