About The Position

The Office of Admissions is accepting applications for an Admissions Counselor. The Admissions Counselor is responsible to the Associate Director for Recruitment and will represent ETSU to a broad range of populations. Each Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment of prospective students in a specified territory; coordinating high school visitation programs and events incorporating formal and informal presentations and public speaking engagements with high school counselors, students, and parents; and, supporting student retention. The Admissions Counselor serves as a front-line service provider with primary in-office student admission counseling, recruitment travel, and communication with prospective students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of university policies, procedures, structures, and services offered.
  • Knowledge of university admission requirements.
  • Knowledge of registration procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current career trends.
  • Knowledge of promotional materials for all academic and student services areas at ETSU.
  • Skilled in public speaking.
  • Skilled at listening and asking open-ended questions to best understand a student’s needs.
  • Skilled in basic computer applications and willing to learn new programs.
  • Ability to travel extensively in recruiting efforts (requiring evenings, weekends, overnights, and extended overnights).
  • Ability to work independently, arrange information sessions, set appointments, and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks accurately as well as accept supervisory input and feedback.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with large groups and individuals.
  • Ability to build relationships with students and their families to assist in identifying the correct program for a student’s career and personal goals.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minium one (1) year of college admissions, sales, outreach, or student organization leadership experience. (Student, part-time, and temporary experience may be considered)
  • Ability and availability to travel, including overnight and weekend work.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in student affairs, higher education, business, or related discipline
  • Two to three years' experience in college admissions or other comparable collegiate/business experience. Student worker, temporary or graduate student experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with historically underserved populations – including low-income, first-generation, underrepresented students of color, veterans and military-affiliated, rural students, and students with different abilities/disabilities.
  • Experience working with CRM, Banner Student Information System, Microsoft Office, and communication platforms for mobile devices.
  • Working knowledge of East Tennessee State University or another regional rural public institution.
  • Valid Drivers License
