About The Position

The Admissions Engagement and Outreach Department is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Admissions Assistant. The Admissions Engagement and Outreach division provides a one-stop support center to new students interested in learning more about West Virginia University. This position handles all phone inquiries, cultivates relationships with students and families, and provides accurate information about WVU and the WVU admissions application process. This role is responsible for a wide range of inquiries from basic information requests to more complex issues about the admissions to enrollment process at WVU and serves as the primary liaison for applicants considering enrollment at WVU. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position covers the broad nature of the Office of Admissions Engagement and Outreach, servicing student recruitment, outreach and foot traffic for the office. This position is an important front facing role in the Office of Admissions Engagement and Outreach in working with prospective students interested in learning more about West Virginia University.

Requirements

  • Associate degree
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
  • Related experience in administrative support, customer services, admissions or similar work experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel (in-person, telephone and email) students and other customers with expertise in the following areas: College Admissions, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Student Accounts, Registration, and Admissions.
  • Present to prospective students and families via twice-daily coverage in the Visitors Center by attending a session at the VC where guests have the opportunity to ask questions about enrolling at WVU. Meets with families before and after presentations for one-on-one counseling.
  • Conduct one-on-one admissions meetings to counsel interested students and their families on academic programs, admissions requirements, housing, cost and aid, and Student Life at WVU. This includes assisting prospective student visitors in completing an application, paying academic and housing deposits, completing a housing application, applying for federal aid, and registering for New Student Orientation.
  • Document communications in university-wide CRM for future outreach by WVU representatives.
  • Counsel prospective students, families, counselors, and WVU administrators via telephone coverage of the general Admissions line and Admissions email. This entails answering the phone, looking up records in Banner and CRM, and providing accurate information to the caller.
  • Assist with all external mailing requests from educational stakeholders and alumni to ensure appropriate information and materials are received upon request.
  • Assist with incoming high school transcripts and send through the management scanning depot for Office of Admissions.
  • Represents WVU at on campus and local off campus recruitment events.
  • Consistently follow-up with students from initial contact through enrollment to assure students have every opportunity to enroll. This includes maintaining open communications via phone, e-mail and surface mail as needed and recruiting students equally regardless of race, religion, or socioeconomic background
