About The Position

The Administrator - Nurse Aide Program will act as the Nurse Aide program director as defined by the Texas Health and Human Services. A program director must directly perform training or have general supervision of the program instructor and supplemental trainers. A NATCEP must have a program director when the NATCEP applies for initial approval by HHSC in accordance with §556.7 of this chapter (relating to Review and Re approval of a Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP)) and to maintain HHSC approval.

Requirements

  • The program director must: Be an RN in the state of Texas; license must be current and valid
  • Have a minimum of two years of nursing experience, with at least one year of providing long term care services in a nursing facility; and
  • Have completed a course that focused on teaching adult students or have experience in teaching adult students or supervising nurse aides.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with multiple constituencies to achieve mission goals.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and oral, written, and presentation skills, including proficiency with in MS Office Word, PPT, and email.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage and be able to travel as needed if you drive your vehicle during company business.

Responsibilities

  • Directing the NATCEP in compliance with the Act and this chapter
  • Directly performing training or having general supervision of the program instructor and supplemental trainers
  • Ensuring that NATCEP records are maintained
  • Determining if trainees have passed the training portion of the NATCEP
  • Signing a competency evaluation application completed by a trainee who has passed the training portion of the NATCEP
  • Signing a certificate of completion or a letter on letterhead stationery of the NATCEP or the nursing facility, stating that the trainee passed the training portion of the NATCEP if the trainee does not take the competency evaluation with the same NATCEP. The certificate or letter must include the date training was completed, the total training hours completed, and the official NATCEP name and number on file with HHSC.
  • Update information in lesson plans when changes are made in the Standards of Care, Safety, and Infection Control according to the Texas Health and Human Services.
  • Research and implement additional material for continuity of learned material.
  • Implementing safety measures for current changes in healthcare protocols.
  • Provide additional training/ one-on-one training to ensure instructors are up to date with current HHS rules and protocols.
  • Ensures that the nurse aide program is in compliance and is prepared for all HHS visits/audits.
  • Complete training/research and testing to maintain continuous educational units as required by the Board of Nursing.
  • Maintains and keeps current any license or certification specific to courses being taught.
  • Engages in activities that demonstrate a pattern of academic, professional, and/or technical updating or currency.
  • Assisting with the promotion and registration of new students for the upcoming classes.
  • Teaches program specific courses as listed on NA Instructor job description if instructor is not available.
  • Updates and utilizes the course syllabus and outline for each course, following established guidelines.
  • Conducts classroom observations for instructors.
  • Travel to and from clinical sites to observe instructors and students.
  • Collaborates with the Student Services Associate/ Senior Education and Training Manager to enroll, register and schedule exams for Prometrics.
  • Informs the GCA staff of pass rate for the Nurse Aide Program per cohort.
  • Schedule time for students to come in and retrain for retesting.
  • Work with instructor and Senior Education and Training Manager on understanding why the student did not pass exam on the first attempt.
  • Collaborates with Instructors, Senior Education and Training Manager to meet academic needs.
  • Serves as a community resource person and represents the school to outside groups when requested in a professional manner.
  • Community Liaison for adult education for the rural communities outside of San Antonio.
  • To accommodate business needs and objectives, other duties may be assigned by leadership.
