About The Position

The Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture is looking to hire an energetic,experienced in African American History individual to fill the Administrator I (Education Coordinator) in their office. This is a special appointment position that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The Education Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of Programs, leads the BDM out of school time, volunteer docent programs. Assists in the development and implementation of museum education and interpretive programs. The Coordinator is responsible for improving the educational and social outcomes of program participants by offering quality instruction, relevant social support, and impactful experiences.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, Arts Management or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of experience working in a museum education setting

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience facilitating school partnerships, particularly in developing teacher training or a collaborative project or initiative.
  • One year of experience leading youth cultural arts workshops and/or programs.
  • Experience writing grants or assisting with grant writing and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate educational print and digital curriculum and resources for youth and families that integrates culturally responsive approaches, museum initiatives, and best practices
  • Develop and evaluate onsite and offsite youth and family programs
  • Analyze and monitor programmatic data for ongoing program improvement
  • Select, monitor, and mentor part-time instructors; Model professional and pedagogical practices for instructors and staff
  • Identify, train and schedule existing and new museum tour docents and program volunteers
  • Implement and communicate BDTM program policies and procedures
  • Collaborate and network with the BDTM team and community partners to ensure the quality of BDTM programs
  • Identify potential new partnerships for BDTM youth & family programming
