About The Position

This position, under general direction serves as the aide to the Department Chair but also works independently to provide essential front-line administrative support to a large academic department. Responsibilities include providing continuity and stability to the central department office; oversight of daily operations; coordination of all confidential personnel matters; scheduling courses; compiling faculty workload and related data; processing curriculum changes, as well as oversight and reconciliation of all aspects of the department budgets. Other duties include administrative, faculty and student support, advisory board and student organization support and public contact.

Requirements

  • This position requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures.
  • These qualifications, and those listed above, would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with four years of related office work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of recent, relevant work experience including financial record keeping, reconciling budget information, tracking payroll and other office expenses.
  • One year of experience providing lead work direction to other staff.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Administrative work experience in an academic department of a university, doing course scheduling, faculty workload, payroll, travel reimbursements, hospitality reimbursement, and grant administration.
  • Experience coordinating and scheduling events.
