About The Position

The Kentucky Innocence Project, located within the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy, is seeking an Administrative Specialist. This role involves working with the public in a fast-paced environment and requires a self-motivated, multi-tasking, and detail-oriented team player. The Administrative Specialist will act as a liaison between attorneys, clients, and other community members, and serve as an administrative assistant to the office's supervisor. Key responsibilities include drafting and editing various documents and reports, necessitating excellent written and verbal communication skills. Time management is crucial for handling multiple time-sensitive tasks and prioritizing duties independently. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position, meaning its duration is tied to a federal grant. Employees in FFTL positions are unclassified (non-merit) but are eligible for benefits at the same level as classified (merit) employees in permanent positions. The role involves working with clients who have been wrongfully convicted and are serving time in Kentucky prisons, requiring compassion and commitment to the mission. Employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis due to applicable state or federal laws.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree
  • One year of professional, administrative, or business experience
  • Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
