The Maryland Department of Labor is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for an Administrative Specialist III position within the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning (DWDAL). GRADE 12 LOCATION OF POSITION Jessup Correction Institution (JCI) 7800 House of Corrections Road Jessup, MD 20794 Main Purpose of Job To provide secretarial and administrative services for the correctional education program located at the Maryland Correctional Institute - Jessup.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain files on student transfers, referrals, promotions, removals, records, and graduations.
  • Update records on school database for monthly report accuracy.
  • Receive telephone calls and visitors, exercising good judgement, courtesy tact and discretion in handling information, answering routine inquiries, and conveying messages to staff when requires.
  • Prepare and disseminate daily student information on location changes and status as well as schedules.
  • Prepare correspondence for the review and signature of the Principal/Teacher Supervisor, and compose and type important correspondence when necessary.
  • Collect, examine, verify and maintain statistical data used in reports.
  • Secure bids, draft and type requisition forms, monthly reports and other materials.
