The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Central Region Director, this position provides administrative support to the Central Region Director and must present a professional image at all times. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Assisting the Central Region Director with a variety of projects and tasks and maintaining documentation both electronically and in hard copy format. 2. Having access to confidential, proprietary and personal information regarding employees, former employees, applicants for employment, offenders and offenders' families. Such confidential information may be verbal, on paper, contained in software, email, visible on screen displays, in computer readable form, or other format and may include medical/health, financial, employment, contractual, or institutional data. 3. Determining matters which are confidential as opposed to public information and demonstrate good judgment in releasing information upon request. 4. Maintaining the Central Region Director’s monthly calendar, preparing the Central Region Director’s expense reports, coordinating meetings and preparing meeting agendas and meeting minutes, composing responses to inquiries and requests, as well as communicating on the behalf of the Central Region Director. 5. Providing statistics, data or other information on very short notice and must be able to maintain information in an easily retrievable manner. 6. Requiring a high level of professionalism as it pertains to contact with departmental, division, regional and prison facility staff, elected officials, governmental officials, community stakeholders and the general public -- this position will have a high volume of contact with Prisons Facility Administrators and Superintendents and Prisons staff in general. 7. Answering a high volume of calls from the general public, elected officials, offender families and staff and must be able to determine the appropriate course of action. 8. Greeting and directing visitors and officials to the Central Region Director's Office. 9. Other duties may include special projects, reports, establishing appointments, making reservations and learning new software programs as needed.
