About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The primary purpose of this position is Human Resources, Budget Management, to supervise administrative support positions by administering and managing the business and personnel management functions. This position will assign and monitor the work efforts of subordinate staff. Work will involve supervision of organization, and coordinating all administrative support activities including budget, purchasing, control and approval of expenditures, inventory, payroll and HR, process coordination of the program specific functions. The position responds to programmatic issues/ needs of staff; interviews, hires, and counsels’ employees, manages office and auxiliary functions (e.g., maintenance, security, HR). This position must exercise good judgment and discretion to perform many of its functions. Note to Current State Employees State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • General knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages to create and maintain data. (i.e., NCFS, FIORI, Smartsheet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint)
  • Ability to multi-task and ensure all components are completed in a timely manner
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and review administrative workflow and procedures
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
