About The Position

Scope of Position The Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor (LANS) supports the Nurse Manager with departmental clinical and administrative operations within The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The (LANS) interacts with the department staff, in partnership with nursing and physician leadership, administrator on-call (AOC) and leadership of the hospital medical personnel, and other team members to achieve optimal patient throughput. The (LANS) promotes a healthy work environment for the team while cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The (LANS) is responsible for enforcing hospital and nursing quality in collaboration with the Director of Nursing Quality, and hospital policies and procedures and supporting the professional practice of nursing. Position Summary The (LANS) supports the Nurse Manager with the staffing, planning, organizing, and evaluating, data for all Administrative Nursing Supervisors (ANS), Staffing Coordinators (SC) and Patient Flow on a 24-hour basis as needed. Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the (LANS) assists in managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of the ANS and SC. Contributes to the ongoing operations of the department and collaborates with other patient care departments/areas that impact performance. The (LANS) can serve as a resource to the team and independently perform all duties of the (ANS), as needed. Ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments/areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services is essential. Complies and operates under the guidance of the Ohio Board of Nursing and other regulatory compliance and accreditation bodies. Promotes the practice of nursing, a just culture, focusing on safety, quality, and evidence-based practice. Manages risks to the organization in alignment with physicians and leadership. Maintains a strong focus on patient experience and staff engagement.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing required.
  • Current license as a registered nurse from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required
  • Prior administrative/leadership and/or management experience in relevant care setting required.
  • Strong clinical experience and strong demonstration of skills related to effective communication, conflict management, decision-making, critical thinking, and time management.
  • Ongoing: Demonstrated competency to meet essential job functions.
  • Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Current Ohio RN license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Professional leadership or clinical certification preferred or obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • ACLS certification preferred/required after hire.
