Conduct hearings in person or on telephone, asking questions, making a record, making evidentiary rulings, controlling the course of the hearing and issue legally correct decisions based upon legal research. Provide information to parties about the hearing process, assist them effectively using that process, investigate and respond to customer complaints. Follow up to ensure that decisions are implemented. Previous experience serving as hearing officers in administrative tribunals is required. Candidates submitted without this experience will be denied. JD law degree is a preference but not required. Other requirements: prior service as a hearing officer at any level, demonstrated experience analyzing testimony and evidence and issuing written decisions, and familiarity with administrative procedure and due process requirements. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience writing administrative decisions and applying regulatory frameworks to factual records is the core competency we're looking for. 100% Remote - Out of state candidates are acceptable. In the event the contractor is converted to a full-time employee, the total conversion fee payable is capped at a maximum of $4,000 JD Degree is required. Candidates submitted without this degree will be denied. Tentative start date will be dependent upon interviews conducted, onboarding completed, and the state agency issuing a PO. 100% Remote - Out of state candidates are acceptable.
