About The Position

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (AZDES), Office of Inspector General (OIG), is seeking experienced Administrative Law Judges / Hearing Officers to conduct administrative hearings and issue legally sound decisions. This is a fully remote opportunity open to candidates nationwide.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree – Required
  • Prior experience serving as an Administrative Hearing Officer
  • Experience analyzing testimony and evidence
  • Experience writing administrative decisions
  • Strong knowledge of administrative procedures and due process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong legal research skills
  • Note: Candidates without prior hearing officer experience will be rejected.
  • Writing sample must be submitted with the resume.
  • New candidates only – anyone submitted to posting 9540 will not be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct administrative hearings (in-person or telephonic)
  • Question parties and witnesses, control hearing proceedings, and rule on evidentiary matters
  • Develop official records and issue legally correct written decisions based on legal research
  • Apply regulatory frameworks and due process requirements to factual records
  • Provide guidance to parties regarding the hearing process
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints
  • Ensure implementation and follow-up of issued decisions
