About The Position

Serves as the administrative resource person within the Hospital for interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures for all departments. Collaborates with Department Directors/Nurse Managers to guide staff in the process of problem resolution.

Requirements

  • Minimum Work Experience A minimum of four (4) years of current clinical nursing experience in a hospital environment in which leadership, interpersonal skills, clinical expertise and professional creativity has been demonstrated is highly desired.
  • Required Licenses / Registrations RN - Registered Nurse
  • Required Classes/Skills ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - 2 Year certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
  • RN-Registered Nurse - Board of Registration in Nursing (Massachusetts)

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum Education - Preferred BSN or equivalent preferred, Masters preferred.
  • INSTRUCTOR- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)

Responsibilities

  • PROBLEM RESOLUTION Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the organization and implements solutions with follow-through and communication of outcome.
  • Responds to administrative problems, defines and resolves problems as they arise. Utilizes on-call director and administrator as necessary.
  • Completes required documentation of problem, investigative findings, action plan and follow-up reports as necessary within established timeframe.
  • Identifies and takes action to address potential system and safety issues.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Maintains current clinical knowledge relative to population of patients from newborn throughout the lifespan and keeps current with hospital policies/procedures.
  • Develops written goals based on individual and department needs as evidenced by performance appraisal.
  • Attends and shares information obtained at continuing education programs with peers by verbal and/or written reports at staff meetings.
  • Maintains current certifications/licensure as required by job.
  • Actively participates in organizational leadership development opportunities.
  • Represents nursing through participation in professional nursing activities as evidenced by attendance at meetings of professional nursing organizations.
  • COMMUNICATION Maintains lines of communication vertically and horizontally throughout the organization.
  • Meets with nurse managers on an on-going basis to discuss plans, progress, problems, needs of clinical staff/ unit.
  • In collaboration with the senior staff and charge nurse, identifies high risk patients/areas of concern and communicates to nursing administration/nurse manager on the next shift as evidenced by verbal and written reports.
  • Facilitates two-way communication between nursing administration and nursing staff as evidenced by the flow of information.
  • PATIENT FLOW Manages patient flow at all points of entry, to assure placement in appropriate level of care. Provides support and resources to assure timeliness of discharges and transfers to outside facilities.
  • Collaborates with nurse managers/patient flow facilitator and operations supervisors to ensure availability of appropriate staff.
  • Monitors bed assignments in collaboration with Patient Access Department and prioritizes admissions based on acuity and clinical presentation.
  • Rounds on patients and engages in service recovery efforts when needed.
  • STAFF DEVELOPM,ENT/CLINICAL RESOURCE
  • Acts as a professional role model for all nursing staff and supports nurses at the bedside by giving direction in setting and maintaining standards of safer, effective nursing care.
  • Establishes a rapport with all managers, makes recommendations regarding the need for specific in-service education.
  • Provides orientation to facility for in-house physicians.
  • Acts as a resource for staff in interpreting hospital/departmental policies.
  • HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
  • Provides input for performance evaluation of nursing personnel as requested by nurse manager.
  • In association with Nurse Manager, will counsel staff on a one-to-one basis as evidenced by written report.
  • Maintains effective and appropriate staffing by monitoring employee overtime and absenteeism.
  • TECHNOLOGY Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices.
  • Efficiently uses Lotus Notes to read and respond to email in a timely fashion, uses databases as indicated and stays current with organizational communication.
  • Masters ReportXpress to monitor staff payroll practices and approve payroll per hospital policy and procedure.
  • Uses web-based incident reporting system to initiate, assign and complete follow-up of all unit based incident reports.
  • Is proficient in the use of technology and IS platform to support programs and departments of responsibility.
  • SAFETY Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
  • Monitors and provides follow-up with any and all staff compliance issues related to "time out" with invasive procedures, patient identification, Do Not Use Abbreviations, telephone orders, infection control standards, use of equipment and alarms and compliance with fall risk assessment.
  • Ensures that the environment of caer is regulatory ready at all times.
  • Addresses all actual and potential safety risks as identified through the Chain of Command by staff or by other organizational bodies.
