About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249 Reporting to the Administrative Officer II, this position is responsible for providing secretarial/clerical support to the Administrative Officer II, the Administrative Department, and the Maintenance Department as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience using clerical and/or secretarial skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Experience using Microsoft Word
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining fixed asset inventory/records and reports.
  • Entering, tracking, and reviewing time sheets using FIORI/Integrated HR-Payroll System and Employee Self Service time review.
  • Training new employees in Employee Self Service functions.
  • Serving as facility site security coordinator, credit card holder, and back-up to answering facility phones.
  • Assisting Personnel Department with managing records for 224 staff positions.
  • Taking meeting minutes, creating spreadsheets, and maintaining data within.
  • Maintaining records and correspondence using computer, filing system, e-mail application, and all standard office equipment.
  • Carrying out both oral and written instructions, reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy, and meeting daily and monthly deadlines.
  • Assisting in handling personnel questions, onboarding new staff, and scheduling Correctional Officer interviews.
